Why Canvas Tarps Are Best?

Updated: Aug 7, 2023

For different jobs like painting or covering furniture, there are multiple canvas drop cloths in the market. In this blog let’s check out the advantages and disadvantages of these four clothes.

Canvas Dropcloth: The canvas drop cloth or so-called canvas tarp is mostly used by professional painters. Because of resilient property, they are ideal for indoor and outdoor uses. The canvas tarps don’t tear easily that’s why they are used in hard conditions too. For example, covering furniture, depending upon the quality of material, they can be used as projector screens.

The material absorbs light and there is no issue of removal of paint. Any individual can wash the cloth with water and it is just like before. Because of this, it is a green option in comparison to the other tarps available. Individuals also argue about the price of canvas tarps in the market. They are relatively high because of the quality of the material. Also, the buyer has to pay once for unlimited use. If he is purchasing any other low-cost tarp then he has to purchase again and again. In comparison to this, canvas tarps are washed and can be stored till next use.

Plastic clothes: This is one is the most commonly used dropcloth. That’s why it is easily available in the market. In comparison to canvas tarps, plastic cloths are relatively cheaper. However, they need more care as they are vulnerable to cuts. They are widely used for covering furniture and division of spaces. For example in this pandemic, these cloths are used for the division of spaces in cabs. They don’t let air pass through them. The only disadvantage is, usage of plastic is not good for the environment. Users should throw them responsibly as they can pollute the land. Users should sell plastic tarps to recyclers. This way they can avoid pollution.

Also, if the plastic cloth is being used outside then make sure to cover it with weight. If not covered then the wind can blow it. The colors are not absorbed as the material is transparent.

Paper Cloths: As these clothes are made of paper, they are disposable. In comparison to the canvas and plastic cloths, they are affordable. The only disadvantage is they cannot be used again and again. In case the buyer wants to use it again and again, he should go with canvas tarps.

Also, as the material used is paper, the paper cloth cannot be used for covering furniture. It absorbs the paint and becomes thick. There are high chances of paint leaking. In case of contact with water, the paper cloth is damaged and cannot be used again. That’s why it is not used outside of the premises.

Poly cloths: Poly cloths have properties of both plastic and paper cloths. Unlike paper cloths, they can absorb paint without leakage. That’s why they cost more than paper and plastic clothes. However, in comparison to canvas tarps, they are relatively cheaper. Any individual should consider poly cloth instead of paper or plastic cloth. This doesn’t mean poly cloths can replace canvas tarps. The only disadvantage is that poly cloths need to be covered with heavy material.

Why Canvas Traps are Widely Used?

From the above discussion, it can be concluded that canvas tarps are best. Now, let's check some more reasons why they are widely used:

• Breathable: Even if canvas tarps don’t let water pass through them, they are breathable. This means air can pass through the fibers of canvas tarps. That’s why these tarps are widely used by farmers. In many crops, they have to supply a sufficient amount of air. At the same time, they’ve to protect those crops from rain. Thus, here using canvas tarps is the best solution. They are also used for covering vehicles.

• Versatile nature: Canvas tarps are used to meet cargo needs. To protect them from rain, the boxes are covered with canvas tarps. As these tarps are not vulnerable to cuts, they can be used again and again. They are best suited for transporting construction material.

• Environment Friendly: Plastic tarps should not widely use as they are harmful to the environment. Instead of this canvas tarps are made up of cotton fibers. This way even if a tarp is disposed of in landfills, it doesn’t harm the environment. With time, it decomposes.

• Options according to choice: Canvas tarps are further divided into two types. These are treated or untreated tarps. Treated tarps are 100% resistant to water and UV rays. In comparison to this untreated tarps is just canvas. They are not 100% resistant to water and UV rays. In treated tarps, tight weaves are used. That’s why they are 100% waterproof.

Conclusion: Though canvas tarps may not be the perfect solution for your need they are best suitable.
